RIVERSIDE COUNTY, Calif.- – Riverside County Sheriff Stan Sniff was in a tight race for the lead in his reelection bid, a short distance behind a Sheriff’s Department Lt. Chad Bianco. The race will apparently not be decided until November.
As of 6:40 a.m. Wednesday Bianco had 59,445 votes representing 35.13% support, while Sniff took 56,115 votes or 33.16%.
The election results are not yet certified, but Bianco released a grateful statement this morning following his favorable numbers with 100% of precincts reporting.
“I’m thankful for each and every vote but this election is about Riverside County not me,” said Bianco. “I’m honored that the voters have put their faith in me to make our county safer and I take that responsibility seriously. I know we have a lot of work to do before the November election but last night we took a big step forward.”
The runoff election is slated for November 6th.
“Incumbent Sheriff Stan Sniff looked vulnerable heading into November. When an incumbent doesn’t finish first, it’s a very bad sign toward their reelection chances,” said Bianco spokesman Andre Levesque. “Sixty-six percent of voters chose someone other than the current Sheriff. I think that speaks volumes about the job he has done and voters want change.”
